Daft
Predictions.

May 2004.
Roll
up, roll up - witness a great cosmic event on June
8th 2005, the Venus Sun transit.
Yes,
it's the silly season once again, when an astronomical event
attracts the attention of Sun Sign Astrologers guaranteeing lots of
'predictions'. And what will be the effect of this conjunction? Very
little! I guarantee it.
Are
you saying that astronomical events are of no consequence? No, of course
not, but it does depend very much on what the event is and how we attempt
to relate it mundane existence. Two things matter: 1] the strength,
and therefore the importance of the configuration, and: 2] the placement
in a chart.
To
begin with, planetary configurations by themselves tell us very little.
Yes I know you can see lists of planetary activity and interpretations in
various publications but, in the main, they are nonsense and more likely
to be the product of an over-fertile imagination rather than astrological
reasoning. Take it from me, if it says, for instance, that the Moon is
square to Venus today it won't matter a hoot - mainly due to the fact that
the Moon exerts little influence.
For
any event to be useful we have to have a 'base' chart in order to see how
it is likely to function. This can be a simple 'Aries chart', an Ingress
chart, or the chart of a person or a nation. A reasonable analogy would be
to equate a planetary event to the statement 'it is raining'. It isn't
very informative. In the second instance - relating it to a chart - we
would say, 'it is only raining in Exeter', which tells us much more. In
this case we have placement.
In
the case of the Venus Sun conjunction it is a relatively weak aspect and
without a chart to relate it to it tells us very little. If we use, say,
an Aries chart [Zero degrees Aries forming the cusp of the 1st House] the
conjunction occurs in Gemini in the 3rd House. But before we rush into
print we have to remember that the aspect is a weak one and that the
chart, per se, isn't particularly useful. Any prediction must take
cognisance of both and be weighted accordingly.
In
this instance I think the best that could be said is that a romance could
capture the public attention and be featured in the media, but the jury is
out on this.
As
a final thought, Venus does not cross the face of the Sun, it only
appears to do so. The Sun actually moves behind Venus.
Author's
note. 8th June 2004.
As
I said previously, the Sun Sign astrologers would be out in force
predicting great things, among which we have the start of a new
'lovey-dovey' world in which peace and harmony will rule and goodness will
bless everyone. Why not make a wish - it could come true! How about a new
source of energy, or the election of a female President of the USA? I
notice that Jonathan Cainer states he needs time to observe and
study this event. Isn't that a bit like shutting the gate after the horse
has bolted? One of the functions of astrology is to make predictions before
the event, otherwise what is the point?
I
have to say that this sort of thing does Astrology no favours and is more
likely to make us a laughing stock rather than raise our status. I will
say it again: this is a MINOR event of little significance, and to treat
it otherwise while ignoring the many other factors at work - such as the
powerful transits of Uranus, Neptune & Pluto - is quite wrong. You can
bet that a lot of money is going to made out of this by some people,
though.
The
Sun Venus predictions.
Sun
- Venus configurations occurring in the heavens are of little significance
and are quite easily overshadowed by aspects between the heavier planets, yet
according to Jonathan Cainer it is one of the most important astrological events in
history and will have a major impact on our lives, thereby ignoring
astrological fact. Furthermore, he goes on to say:
-
It
will work wonders for women and that they will be honoured for the
contribution they make. A little vague don’t you think?
-
A
female revolution in the next few years. I think you will find it has
already been going on for a decade or so.
-
A
more loving, giving world? With Pluto entering Capricorn in a few
years time I really don’t think so. In any case, why didn’t
any of the previous transits bring this about?
-
A
female President of the USA? When, may I ask? [Didn’t Russell Grant
say this first?].
-
In
the past, says Cainer, this transit has often coincided with the sudden
arrival of exceptionally wise, powerful, noteworthy women. Exactly
who, for instance?
Next
- How to find your Venus Sign, complete with tables and interpretations.
May I ask what on earth the Sign in which Venus happens to be in at birth
has to do with this Venus -Sun conjunction? Unless the conjunction forms
an aspect to your own Venus it is to all intents and
purposes irrelevant and serves only to fill out the pages of a newspaper.
New
'planets'.
King
of the Sun Sign cowboys - Jonathan Cainer has decided [against all
scientific opinion] that Sedna is the latest buzzword and has proceeded to
make all manner of silly claims as to its effects. Like other daft
predictions this one is also doomed to failure. Sedna in NOT a planet, nor
does it have any place in the Astrological scheme - cloud-cuckoo-land,
perhaps?
The
Lunar Standstill.
This
is typical of uninformed Astrologers who fail to realise that such events
carry little or no weight - they are a non-starter as far as accurate
predictions go. To make predictions, such as; There
will be more floods, storms, earthquakes and eruptions but less so
than last year, or the worst outrages of the 21st century are already behind
us is plain silly. To further imply that our new year resolutions have a
better chance of coming true beggars belief. This is not Astrology - it is
fantasy, as time will show.
Lottery
win prediction? Wednesday's
Daily Mail featured a large article on the so-called prediction of a
lottery win for a Mr. Gareth Cooper, a Cancer subject by Sun Sign
Cowboy Jonathan Cainer. By accident or
design they failed to consider the statistics, so I will give them
here. There
are approximately 60 million people in this country, so if we divide
this by the number of Zodiac Signs we get roughly 5 million people per
Sign. As this was a prediction for all Cancerians, would Cainer
or the Daily Mail explain to us why the remaining 5 million Cancer
subjects didn't win. Perhaps I am missing something here, but
did Cainer predict this just for Mr. Cooper? No, of course not,
it was just one of his run of the mill predictions. So
what is all the fuss about? Selling newspapers - that's what.
