January 2007. Bonus for fake Astrologers.
Well
here we are at the beginning of yet another year, a year in which the
fake Astrologers are raking off millions of pounds with their
'predictions', predictions that will largely fail miserably because they
are based on the wrong information or are simply made up. Some, like
fake Astrologer Jonathan Cainer, will set a theme for the year,
one they can milk for quite a long time. This year we have the supposed
conjunction between Pluto and the Galactic Centre. I confidently predict
that this, like all previous fads, will turn out to be a fallacy.
One
of the consequences of fake Astrology is that it causes unrealistic
expectations in the minds of people. If you take the predictions of
Cainer, for instance, you will see that they always give a wonderfully
positive message - everything is going to be beautiful in your life and
bad things simply don't happen. This approach may make Cainer a firm
favourite in the public eye [which is what it is designed to do] and it
will certainly increase his financial status, but it is thoroughly
misleading and has consequences for genuine Astrologers who are supposed
to come up with the same message even though a chart says exactly
the opposite.
Genuine
Astrologers will always seek to point out the truth, which may include difficulties
that lie ahead; but isn't it better to be forewarned so you can do
something about it rather than rely on the often downright lies of the
fake Astrologers? Timely action can save a person a lot of grief and
misfortune, yet the fake Astrologers won't give you this information
even if they knew about it, which many don't because they are unable to
read a chart anyway. Remember this: none of us can do anything about the
effects of planetary movements, but we can do something about how we
adapt to these conditions. Nothing is 'fated', everything lies in the
hands of the individual, so knowing what the future has in store - all
of the future - gives you foresight and allows you to adjust. Difficult
events won't simply go away, but they can be minimised or even largely
avoided if you are aware of them. The alternative is to listen to the
likes of Cainer who will create a false sense of security and,
incidentally do this through a badly set up computer program. Don't fall
for it.

January 2007. Jonathan Cainer and the comet.
For
some time now, fake Astrologer Jonathan Cainer has been singing
the praises of a comet lying in close proximity to the Sun. According to
him, this is a 'wonderfully auspicious omen' and to make matters worse
he even includes it in his Sun Sign forecasts for 2007.
Let
me point out that comets have never been seen as fortunate omens,
in fact they have always been regarded as messengers of impending
disasters or the demise of a world leader. For Cainer to reverse
centuries of tradition is arrogant and just plain silly, yet this is
typical of the man in the cloud-cuckoo land in which his predictions
emanate. Everything in Cainer's world is wonderful, and to make sure it
continues to be so he defies the rules of Astrology and tradition
presumably in an attempt to make a favourable impression. I should also
mention that comets have never been regarded as being part of Astrology
- they best belong to folklore, but Cainer doesn't seem to know
this.
I
have sent an email to Cainer complaining about his lack of Astrological
principles and pointing out that comets are no part of it. As usual, I
confidently predict that Cainer will ignore my email as indeed he has
done with all previous ones. I leave you to judge why.

January 2007. Beyond Sun Signs.
I
can quite understand the fact that people with an interest in Astrology
read a book and accept the contents as being authentic, but regrettably
this is not always the case, in fact most Astrology books are based on
Sun Signs and so are seriously flawed anyway. Now just about everyone
knows their Sun sign and as a result of the antics of the Sun Sign
cowboys has a basic idea of what this means - up to a point. What about
the House position of your Sun and the aspects to your Sun? These will
make a profound difference to the overall picture. I should also ask,
what about the rest of the planets and Angles in your chart? Without an
accurately calculated chart and a professional interpretation you will
never know.
Of
course it doesn't end with the Sun Sign, some people get to know other
things like the Sign the Moon is in or their ascendant [hopefully these
have been deduced by a competent Astrologer]. I often hear things like,
'My Ascendant is Gemini.' And? 'Well I suppose that makes me intelligent
and witty.' And? Er... End of story.
Again
the Sun Sign cowboys and writers of 'cookbook' interpretations have
ignored the rules of Astrology and come up with predigested offerings
designed to amuse the public and, of course, make lots and lots of money
at their expense. Unfortunately, people tend to believe this rubbish.
Let's look at the facts.
Ascendant
in Gemini will give certain indications as to personality traits. Now,
what about the aspects to the ascendant? Are there any planets in the
1st House? If so, what aspects do they have and what does this add to
the overall interpretation? What about the ruler of the Ascendant - in
this case Mercury. What House does it lie in and what aspects affect it?
Before anyone can assess their personality traits all of these have to
be taken into consideration and then assembled into an interpretation.
So, as you can see, Astrology is far more complex than the writers of
these books would have you believe.

January 2007. Fake psychics.
For
some time now I have been asked about psychics, particularly fake
psychics, but I have stayed clear of this because my interests are
primarily concerned with Astrology. However, I am becoming increasingly
aware that a large number of psychics advertising on the Internet are
indeed fakes and as no one else seems to be doing anything about it I
have decided to compile a database of fakes to be put online in the very
near future. Watch this space.
